<about>
General scomm menu
<scomm>
Main menu help
File - uploading, downloading, log files, and quitting.
Connect - phone and direct connections.
Parameters - eg N81, the baud and the com port.
Editor - the built-in editor.
Directory - The Name/Number listing.
The SCOMM upper level menu also has some 'hidden' commands.
F7 - runs TELE_UDF.BAT for your own 'User Defined Functions'.
F8 - a simple DOS shell. Its one way to get to TSH/TSR.
F9 - clear the screen when it gets untidy.
Ctrl-C - also clears the screen.
Alt-Q - direct exit. Exit leaving the COM port active.
Alt-X - exit.
Alt-H - hangup. The more efficient hangup.
<log>
--- log help screen ---
You can turn on/off log files, but its not a good idea if you
combine Teleshare and SCOMM log files because two processes will
then be competing for the same data and com port.
<upload>
--- upload help screen ---
You upload or send files to another system.
<download>
--- download help screen ---
You download or retrieve files from another system.
<quitcom>
--- quit help screen ---
Quitting will automatically hangup, but SCOMM's hangup is 'weak' and
the connection may well be maintained for a TeleShare connection.
(This is a good thing when you want to quit and use TeleShare without
leaving SCOMM in RAM).
(For you technical people, the basic hangup fails to 'turn DTR off'
which is why we have added the Alt-H extra hangup for when you want
to 'do it right')
<call>
--- call help screen ---
Use the Connect menu options for actual call management. You
can dial, setup to wait for a call, hangup, and opt for a direct
connection. The Direct Connection is also useful if you want to
directly send commands to the modem.
<answer>
--- answer help screen ---
Answer actually sends a command to the modem to respond to incoming
calls. Its the normal ATS0=1 to answer on the first ring. See the
Direct connection help for a scheme for answering on other rings.
<hangup>
--- hangup help screen ---
The menu hangup option uses the normal modem hangup command ATH0.
The Alt-H option uses the HANGUP.BAT which defaults to using DTR,
which is much more effective. (It uses the DTR.COM file that
you may have noticed on the drive.)
<direct>
--- direct help screen ---
Use this option when you have two computers connected directly
together (eg in the same room). You will likely find that using
TeleShare directly is easier than going through SCOMM.
This option is also very useful when you want to setup to answer
a call on the second or some other ring, or when you simply want
to directly send commands to the modem. Once you have selected
DIRECT you can simply type commands that directly go to the port
and the modem. Use ATS0=2 to answer on the second ring, and
ATS0=3 to answer on the third, and so on. Type in ATZ to reset
the modem to its default setup. Finish off each of these commands
by tapping the Enter/Return key.
<port>
--- port help screen ---
Choose COM port 1 or port 2 to match the setup you make with
TSSETUP.EXE.
If your mouse is on COM port 1, choose COM port 2.
If you HAVE to use COM3 or COM4, look at the Hands On Remote
Access package instead.
<baud>
--- baud help screen ---
Choose a baud rate that matches your modem, or the modem on the other
end if you know its slower. Most modems can adjust but a fair number
will appreciate getting a call at the right baud rate. Do NOT set to
9600 baud for a 2400 baud modem (or try it to see the resulting problems).
The TeleShare remote access baud rate has to be set with the TSSETUP.EXE
setup utility. You do not change its settings from here.
<parity>
--- parity:data:stop help screen ---
TeleShare only uses the None 8 1 settings.
<future>
This version of SCOMM is designed as a dialer with some
features to help you use it with TeleShare. Other features
may be added to meet demand.
<dialmode>
--- dialmode help screen ---
The mode is Tone or Pulse and Tone is
more modern and more likely.
<writecfg>
This saves the settings to the drive.
<directry>
--- phone directory help screen ---
The Directory provides for a person's/outfit's name, number,
password, baud, and a script file name. The password is not
used by this version of Teleshare (you might ask or test for
yourself in case we forget to update this help file). We now
prefer to use the RUNT for password management.
<script>
--- script help screen ---
Check out the sample procomm.scr script file.
We do not have any known current users of the scripts
and will not add more capability without prompting.
<name>
--- name help screen ---
His/her/company name.
<phone>
--- phone help screen ---
The phone number. Like 604 433-5189
<protocol>
--- protocol selector help screen ---
Choose Xmodem, or use TeleShare's XM xmodem.
